Waterboys

Watch Waterboys (ウォーターボーイズ, 2001) online on iFILM — Shinobu Yaguchi's Japanese comedy about a group of teenage boys who agree to perform a synchronized swimming show. A young female coach arrives at their all-boys school with exactly that plan. Then she goes on maternity leave.

The five volunteers — hopeless in the water and now entirely on their own — refuse to abandon it. Satoshi Tsumabuki and Hiroshi Tamaki carry most of the comic weight, and Yaguchi builds the film as a sports underdog story where the sport just happens to be synchronized swimming by teenage boys.
