Just Visiting

Just Visiting (2001) is a fantasy comedy you can watch online on iFILM, and it drops a 12th-century knight into modern America. A botched spell sends Count Thibault and his servant Andre out of the Middle Ages and straight into present-day Chicago.

Cars, elevators and skyscrapers leave the pair completely baffled. Thibault tracks down his great-great-great-granddaughter Julia, played by Christina Applegate, who tries to walk two medieval visitors through the 21st century. Jean Reno and Christian Clavier reprise the roles that made the French original a hit, with Malcolm McDowell turning up as an eccentric wizard.

This is the Hollywood remake of the cult French film Les Visiteurs, directed again by Jean-Marie Poire. The laughs come from raw culture shock: a knight in armor eats with his hands, smashes the furniture and mistakes a car for a beast.
