Synopsis
The Slave Isaura (A Escrava Isaura, 2004) is a Brazilian drama series you can watch online on iFILM. This Record TV production retells Bernardo Guimarães' 1875 novel — the same story that swept across Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union in the 1980s as one of the first Latin American telenovelas to reach mass audiences there. Bianca Rinaldi plays Isaura; Theo Becker plays Leoncio, the new master who inherits her.
Brazil, 1855. Isaura's mother was a slave, which makes Isaura property by law — regardless of her fair complexion, her education, or the warmth Gertrudes, wife of Commander Almeida, gave her while raising her. When the old Commander dies, Leoncio takes control of the estate. He is possessive, volatile, and entirely unmoved by Isaura's dignity or her pleas to be treated as a person rather than an asset.
The story doesn't soften its material. What makes this 2004 version worth watching beyond nostalgia is the wider cast of Jackson Antunes and Patrícia França fleshing out the plantation world around Isaura, giving the injustice a fuller social frame. Stream The Slave Isaura (2004) on iFILM.
