Synopsis
God of War (荡寇风云, 2017) is a Chinese historical war film you can watch online on iFILM. The year is 1557, and pirate raiders have bled the empire's eastern coast for decades. A sharp young general, Qi Jiguang (Vincent Zhao), is sent to a front where the veteran Commander Yu Dayou (Sammo Hung) has run out of options.
Qi's argument is blunt: ragtag militia will never clear the sea. So he drills a brand-new army from scratch, rates discipline over bloodline, and builds the famous "mandarin duck" formation to break the pirates' blades. Back home waits his wife Ren (Regina Wan), the one person who can still talk the iron commander down.
Director Gordon Chan keeps the battles muddy and physical — bamboo spears, ankle-deep water, no CGI gloss. Sammo Hung, the Hong Kong action legend, choreographed much of it himself.
