Fight Back to School

Fight Back to School (1991) is a Hong Kong action-comedy with a detective hook you can watch online on iFILM. Director Gordon Chan used it as a launchpad for a young Stephen Chow, who became Cantonese cinema's biggest draw right after it.

Special-unit cop Star Chow is one mistake away from getting thrown off the force. His commander hands him a final chance: recover a senior officer's lost revolver, which went missing inside a posh high school. Posing as a lazy student, Star enrolls in class while his partner Tat, played by Ng Man-tat, pretends to be his father. To a hardened cop, the classroom is worse than any shootout — chalk erasers fly at him for daydreaming, the lessons go straight over his head, and he falls hard for a teacher.

Then it turns out the gun didn't vanish by accident — a triad cell has dug into the school, led by an ice-cold heavy played by Roy Cheung. Chow runs his trademark mo lei tau nonsense humor, lurching from farce into real fistfights. Sharla Cheung makes a winning foil for the lead. An early-nineties Hong Kong staple that genre fans adore.
