Away

Away (Projām, 2019) is a Latvian animated fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. A young man wakes after a plane crash on a nameless island, dangling from his parachute over a cliff. A vast dark shape is already drifting toward him, swallowing everything it touches. There is no way back, only forward — across forests, a desert and a mountain range toward a distant sea.

Along the road he gains one companion: a small bird fallen from its nest. Not a single word is spoken in the whole film. The story rides entirely on motion, score and landscape, and at 75 minutes it never lingers. The island turns from paradise to threat and back again.

The real marvel is how it was made. Director Gints Zilbalodis animated, edited and scored every frame of it himself, alone. The result feels closer to a dream or a video game than to conventional animation — a quiet meditation on fear and momentum.
