Krisha

Krisha (2016) is an American indie drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Trey Edward Shults made this debut feature with his own family: Krisha Fairchild, his real-life aunt, plays the title role — a woman returning to a family Thanksgiving after years away that nobody talks about directly.

The premise is domestic and the stakes are entirely internal. Krisha wants a fresh start; she volunteers to cook the turkey for a houseful of relatives, and that act of goodwill becomes the film's slow-motion pressure cooker. Fairchild is extraordinary — present in every frame, unguarded in a way that most professional performances never get close to. The film was shot in nine days on roughly $30,000, and Shults uses the constraints to his advantage: tight camerawork, a score by Brian McOmber that builds dread from ordinary sounds, and editing that never lets you settle.
