Synopsis
Foyle's War (2002) is the ITV period detective series you can watch online on iFILM. On the south coast of England, with the Second World War closing in, Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle solves murders in the quiet seaside town of Hastings.
Michael Kitchen underplays Foyle beautifully — soft-spoken, watchful, never raising his voice when a stare will do. He wants to serve at the front, but the force is short-handed and keeps him home. His driver, the bright and unflappable Sam Stewart (Honeysuckle Weeks), and his wounded sergeant Milner work the cases beside him. Behind each ordinary crime sit black-marketeers, deserters, spies and officials happy to profit from the war.
Created by Anthony Horowitz, the show lives on its homefront detail: ration books, blackouts, invasion nerves, the small moral rot of wartime. Each feature-length episode hangs on a real event from the conflict. It is slow, intelligent and built for viewers who love classic British mysteries like Poirot and the texture of the 1940s.
