Combat! (Seasons 1–5)

Combat! (1962) is an ABC war drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows a U.S. Army infantry squad pushing through occupied France in the summer of 1944, hedgerow by hedgerow, village by ruined village, with German units waiting at every turn.

Two men anchor the show. Lieutenant Gil Hanley (Rick Jason) carries the orders and the map; Sergeant Chip Saunders (Vic Morrow) carries the men and the cost of every firefight. The camera stays low and close — mud, wet coats, a sudden burst of fire, a road that has to be taken before dark. Among the directors rotating through early episodes was a young Robert Altman, years before his own fame.

Five seasons from 1962 to 1967 made it one of the longest-running war series on American television.
