Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 (攻殻機動隊 SAC_2045, 2020) is an anime series you can watch online on iFILM. The year is 2045: a worldwide financial collapse has tipped the planet into a managed, never-ending "Sustainable War," and artificial intelligence has surged past every old safeguard.

Major Motoko Kusanagi and her former Section 9 unit now work as guns for hire, drifting across a scorched American West Coast and taking whatever contracts pay. Then a posthuman shows up — a being that out-thinks any cyborg and shrugs off damage that should kill it. The old crew has to regroup just to figure out what they're even facing, and whether it can be stopped at all.

This is a full reboot of Masamune Shirow's landmark franchise, rendered entirely in 3D CG by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki for Netflix. The cast carried over too — Atsuko Tanaka voices Motoko once more. The look will surprise fans of the hand-drawn classics, but the trademark questions about consciousness, networks and where the human ends are all still here.
