ULTRAMAN (2019) is a Japanese anime series you can watch online on iFILM. Decades have passed since the giant who guarded Earth disappeared. Now his power has settled into a teenager, Shinjiro Hayata — and the boy only finds out when assassins come for him.

Shinjiro's father, Shin Hayata, was once that very hero, his memory of those battles long since wiped. A former special-forces operative named Ide hands the boy a combat exosuit, and Shinjiro takes up the fight against aliens hiding among ordinary people. Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts built the show in full 3DCG rather than hand-drawn animation, which gives the brawls a heavy, bone-cracking weight.

Netflix released the series, directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki. This is not the kids' Ultraman of the old rubber-suit broadcasts — it's a darker urban action story about a boy in armor. Fans of modern action anime will slip right in.
