Synopsis
Intimate Enemies (L'Ennemi intime, 2007) is a French war drama directed by Florent-Emilio Siri — watch online on iFILM. Benoît Magimel and Albert Dupontel head the cast. The film places a French platoon in Algeria in 1959, inside a conflict the military was still calling pacification instead of war.
Lieutenant Terrien arrives with his principles intact and draws Sergeant Dougnac as his opposite number — experienced, unsentimental, and long past caring about ideals. As the campaign turns grimmer, the gap between what Terrien believes and what he ends up doing narrows in ways he cannot stop. The two men begin as reluctant colleagues and end up something much harder to name.
Siri made this without a single heroic note. France only officially recognized Algeria as a war in 1999 — for decades the conflict had no proper name. The film does not judge from the outside; it shows how the machine works from within. Well-acted and coldly precise. Stream Intimate Enemies (2007) online on iFILM.
