In the Shadow of the Moon
Remember when the whole world looked up.
Synopsis
In the Shadow of the Moon (2007) is a documentary by David Sington that you can watch online on iFILM. It gathers the men who flew to the Moon on the Apollo missions alongside NASA footage, much of it restored and shown here for the first time.
There's no narrator and no reenactment. The astronauts carry the story themselves — Buzz Aldrin, Mike Collins, Jim Lovell, Gene Cernan, Alan Bean and more, among the handful of people who ever left Earth behind to stand on another world. They talk about cramped capsules, the silence on the far side, watching home shrink to the size of a thumbnail, and the fear they worked hard not to show.
Sington cuts the archive so that a Saturn V launch still raises the hair on your arms. What lands hardest is the tone: older men, wry and still amazed at what they did. A great pick for anyone drawn to space and living 20th-century history. Stream In the Shadow of the Moon (2007) online on iFILM.
