Synopsis
The Patience Stone (Syngué Sabour, 2013) is Atiq Rahimi's war drama, and you can watch online on iFILM. Somewhere in a country torn by fighting, much like Afghanistan, a young woman keeps watch over her husband. A bullet in the neck has left him alive but silent, and his jihadi comrades and brothers are long gone.
Golshifteh Farahani carries almost the entire film alone, at the bedside of a man who cannot hear a word. That is exactly why she finally speaks. She talks about her childhood and forced marriage, about ten hollow years, about fear and desire and her own body — everything a living, listening husband would never have allowed. In Persian belief, the syngué sabour is a stone you pour your grief into until it shatters; the motionless man becomes that stone.
Rahimi adapted his own novel, a Prix Goncourt winner, and keeps nearly the whole story inside one room. It's spare, unflinching cinema about a woman's voice in a place built to silence it — made for viewers ready to sit with a slow, honest reckoning. Stream The Patience Stone online on iFILM.
