Synopsis
Far from Men (2015) is a French war drama you can watch online — directed by David Oelhoffen and shot in the Algerian highlands with Viggo Mortensen in the lead. The year is 1954 and the Algerian War of Independence has just begun.
Daru is a schoolteacher stationed in a remote mountain village. He is handed a single order: escort a local man named Mohamed — played by Reda Kateb — to the nearest town to face colonial justice. What should take a day turns into a trek across a frozen plateau where no one trusts either of them. The French army suspects Daru of sympathy with the rebels; the rebels see him as a tool of the occupiers. Both men are caught between sides that have already decided their fate.
Oelhoffen adapted Albert Camus's short story "The Guest" and keeps its moral weight intact — there is no right answer here, only the question of what a person does when the choice is impossible. Mortensen and Kateb carry the whole film on almost no dialogue. Stream Far from Men (2015) online on iFILM.
