Synopsis
Summer '03 (2018) is an American coming-of-age comedy-drama directed by Becca Gleason in her feature debut — watch it online on iFILM. Sixteen-year-old Jamie Winkle (Joey King) is having a standard summer: first boyfriend, restless energy, the vague feeling that her family is hiding something. Then her grandmother is dying, and instead of a quiet farewell, she delivers a deathbed monologue full of confessions and grudges that rocks every adult in the room.
Jamie spends the rest of the summer sorting through the wreckage — figuring out her own sexuality, watching her parents struggle with what they just learned, and trying to have a regular teenage summer while everything is quietly on fire around her. June Squibb plays the grandmother with gleeful precision, Jack Kilmer is the boyfriend, and Andrea Savage anchors the family drama as Jamie's mother.
Gleason's film earns points for not overselling its emotional beats. It is awkward in the right places, funny without trying too hard, and honest enough about the messiness of adolescence to feel real. Worth watching for fans of low-key coming-of-age stories that trust their characters. Stream Summer '03 (2018) online on iFILM.
