Synopsis
The Devil (Diabeł, 1972) is a Polish historical horror-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Poland, 1793: as the country is torn apart, a stranger in black frees young nobleman Jakub from a prison cell.
The rescue carries a price — the names of Jakub's fellow conspirators. He trails his savior across a land sliding into chaos, and every mile chips away at what is left of his sanity. A Prussian agent nicknamed the Devil nudges him from betrayal toward bloodshed, until the patriot turns into a wandering killer.
Andrzej Żuławski directed it, and Communist-era authorities kept his work on the shelf for years: The Devil stayed banned until the late 1980s. Leszek Teleszyński and Wojciech Pszoniak head the cast.
