Synopsis
Fifty Dead Men Walking (2008) is Kari Skogland's fact-based thriller, and you can watch online on iFILM. It grows out of the memoir of Martin McGartland, a Belfast kid the British police turned into their man inside the IRA.
The year is 1989 and Belfast is shredded by the conflict. Marty (Jim Sturgess), a small-time street hustler, takes the recruitment offer and climbs through the ranks of the organization, feeding his handler the kind of tips that abort bombings and keep people breathing. His mentor and only safety net is the weary, coldly practical agent Fergus, played by Ben Kingsley. The more one side trusts him, the closer the other comes to finding him out, and the double life grinds Marty down from the inside.
Skogland shoots it tense and unglamorous — no romance about the underground, just wet streets, constant exposure, and a bullet as the price of one slip. A solid pick for anyone who likes spy dramas built on politics and personal betrayal. Stream Fifty Dead Men Walking (2008) online on iFILM.
