Synopsis
A Prayer for the Dying (1987) is a British crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM, with Mickey Rourke as an IRA gunman who wants out. The job that breaks him: a bomb meant for an armoured truck takes a school bus instead.
Martin needs to leave the country, and a forged passport comes at one last price — a contract killing ordered by London racketeer Jack Meehan, played by Bob Hoskins. He does the hit, and a Catholic priest, Father Da Costa, happens to see it. Instead of silencing the witness, Martin walks into the confessional and ties the priest to a vow he cannot break. Meehan refuses to live with loose ends and starts squeezing everyone who knows.
Director Mike Hodges adapts Jack Higgins' novel, and a young Liam Neeson turns up in a small role. What lingers isn't the gunfire but the guilt — this is a film about a man past redemption still reaching for it. A grim, intimate pick for anyone who likes eighties British crime without the gloss.
