Island of Lost Souls
TERROR! Stalked the Brush-Choked Island...Where Men Who Were Animals Sought the Girl Who Was All-Human!
Synopsis
Island of Lost Souls (1932) is a Paramount horror and science-fiction picture you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Erle C. Kenton from H.G. Wells' novel The Island of Doctor Moreau. Charles Laughton plays Dr. Moreau, and Bela Lugosi is among his creations.
A shipwrecked traveler washes up on a remote island where Moreau has spent years surgically reshaping animals into something almost — but not quite — human. The creatures obey, barely, held in check by pain and the memory of the whip. When a second outsider arrives, that fragile order starts to crack.
Laughton plays Moreau not as a ranting villain but as a man who genuinely enjoys his work, which is far more unsettling. Paramount released it in 1932 and censors in Britain and several other countries promptly banned it — a rare distinction for the pre-Code era. It laid the groundwork for body horror decades before anyone used the term. Stream Island of Lost Souls (1932) online on iFILM.
