Synopsis
The Master and Margarita (2024) is Mikhail Lokshin's fantasy drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. In 1930s Moscow, a blacklisted playwright sees his play pulled, his name dragged through the press, his writers'-union card revoked.
At his lowest, he meets Margarita (Yulia Snigir), unhappily married and ready to give up everything for him. Their affair feeds the novel he sits down to write. Meanwhile a courtly foreigner who calls himself Woland (August Diehl) sweeps into the city with a strange entourage, and the writer's life starts bleeding into his manuscript. Evgeny Tsyganov plays the Master; Claes Bang surfaces in the Pilate thread.
Lokshin skips the scene-by-scene adaptation in favor of a story about an author taking revenge on his persecutors through fiction — staged in a lavish Moscow that never quite existed, the Devil as co-writer.
