Synopsis
Orlando (1992) is a fantasy drama directed by Sally Potter, adapted from Virginia Woolf's novel — watch it online on iFILM. Tilda Swinton plays the title role: a young English nobleman at the Elizabethan court who receives an extraordinary royal command — do not age, do not die.
Orlando obeys. Over four centuries he moves through courts, wars, and drawing rooms, serves as an ambassador in Central Asia, and one morning simply wakes up as a woman. The centuries pile up but the memory stays intact. Potter turns this impossible premise into something quietly precise: a film about property, poetry, desire, and what shifts — and what doesn't — when gender is no longer fixed.
Shot across England, Uzbekistan, and Russia, with Quentin Crisp cast as Elizabeth I herself. The film competed at Venice and earned wide critical praise as one of the most inventive European art films of the early nineties. Stream Orlando (1992) on iFILM.
