Synopsis
A Nos Amours (À nos amours, 1983) is a French drama directed by Maurice Pialat — stream it online on iFILM. Suzanne is fifteen, then sixteen. She moves from one man to another not out of calculation but because the feeling she mistakes for love evaporates the moment anyone gets close enough to matter. She cannot explain it. Neither can anyone around her.
Home offers no shelter. Her brother is volatile, her mother barely holding together, and her father — the one person who actually sees her — walks out on the family and takes the only warmth in the house with him. Sandrine Bonnaire was eighteen when she played Suzanne; it was her first major role and it won her the César for Most Promising Actress. Pialat himself played the father.
Pialat made films the way a surgeon cuts — no anesthetic, no tidy conclusions. A Nos Amours is built from long, uncomfortable scenes that feel improvised even when they weren't, full of the specific texture of a family falling apart rather than a tidy narrative arc. For viewers who want French cinema at its most unsparing. Watch A Nos Amours (1983) online on iFILM.
