Synopsis
Loulou (1980) is Maurice Pialat's French drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Nelly walks out on her well-off ad-executive husband for Loulou — jobless, aimless, and impossible to resist.
She's drawn to his coarseness and his ease, to a life with no schedule and no ambition. Loulou swears he'll straighten out for her and the baby on the way. Then a long lunch with his rough family shows Nelly exactly what marriage to him would mean. Isabelle Huppert and Gérard Depardieu play the attraction almost wordlessly — in looks, bodies, silences. Guy Marchand is the abandoned husband, pitiable and not.
Pialat shoots without polish: jagged scenes, natural light, dialogue that sounds overheard rather than written. It's a film about desire that asks no permission and promises no happy ending. For anyone who values raw French realism and acting stripped of theatrics. Stream Loulou (1980) online on iFILM.
