Synopsis

Sharkwater Extinction (2018) is a Canadian documentary directed by Rob Stewart — watch it online on iFILM. The film follows the hidden networks sustaining what Stewart described as the largest wildlife massacre on the planet.

Sharks are being killed at roughly 150 million per year — not just for fin soup but for fish products, fertilizer and pet food that most consumers never link to sharks at all. Stewart traced the money into pirate fishing fleets, port officials on the take and a multi-billion dollar trade operating outside any regulation. His earlier film, Sharkwater (2006), had already shifted Canadian shark-fin policy. This one aimed wider.

Stewart died on January 31, 2017, during a diving expedition off the Florida Keys, before the film was finished. His crew completed the edit. Sharkwater Extinction is his final statement — watch it online on iFILM.
