Synopsis
Happily Ever After (Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants, 2004) is a French tragicomedy about marriage you can watch online on iFILM. Yvan Attal directed it and took the lead himself, opposite Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Don't expect a tidy plot — this is a candid sketch of grown-up life in Paris. Two married men quietly envy their single friend, who envies their domestic comfort right back, while the women around them chase the same hard questions: can love survive routine, can freedom coexist with fidelity. Imagined affairs, lingering glances on the street, grievances left unspoken at home. Alain Chabat, Emmanuelle Seigner and Anouk Aimée fill out the cast, and Johnny Depp turns up in a wordless cameo as a stranger in a record shop.
Attal and Gainsbourg are a couple off-screen too, and that intimacy reads in every scene — the film runs on half-glances and awkward silences rather than dialogue. A melancholy watch for anyone who loves talky French drama that looks at love without the rose tint. Stream Happily Ever After (2004) online on iFILM.
