Don't Look Back

Don't Look Back (Ne te retourne pas, 2009) is a French psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Writer-director Marina de Van built the film around a structural trick that few horror films attempt: casting Sophie Marceau and Monica Bellucci as the same woman at different stages of a terrifying transformation, cutting between them as if the change were simply happening mid-scene.

Jeanne is a writer with a husband, two children, and a book coming out. Then her apartment starts feeling slightly wrong. Her face in the mirror doesn't quite match what she expects. Nobody around her sees it — they chalk it up to deadline stress — but the change keeps accelerating. A photograph from Italy pulls her toward a woman named RosaMaria and the possibility that the person she thought she was may not be the person she actually is.
