The Sense of an Ending

The Sense of an Ending (2017) is a British psychological drama directed by Ritesh Batra — watch it online on iFILM. The film adapts Julian Barnes's Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name. Retired London photographer Tony Webster, played by Jim Broadbent, receives a letter from a solicitor: a woman he barely remembers has left him the diary of a long-dead school friend.

The diary belonged to Adrian — a brilliant, intense teenager who took his own life decades ago. Tracking down how the diary ended up in this woman's hands forces Tony to revisit a first love, a letter he wrote in bitterness and largely forgot, and years of quietly rewritten memory. Charlotte Rampling, Matthew Goode, and Michelle Dockery round out the cast.
