Synopsis
In My Skin (Dans ma peau, 2002) is Marina de Van's body horror, available to watch online on iFILM. Esther gashes her leg at a party, barely notices the wound at first, and then cannot leave her own body alone.
Esther is thirty, climbing at work, thinking about moving in with her boyfriend, sitting through business dinners. One cut undoes all of it. First she studies the scar. Then she touches it. Then she starts cutting again, in secret — a hotel room, under her desk at the office — and pain stops feeling like pain. De Van directed the film and plays Esther herself.
Critics file it alongside Gaspar Noé and Bruno Dumont under the New French Extremity. It's shot cold and clinical: no monster, just a woman and her skin.
