Wendy grows up beside a roadside diner where every day looks like the last. Then she jumps a freight train and lands on an island in the middle of the ocean — a place where no one ages. A wild boy named Peter runs the shore, and something ancient breathes beneath the water, deciding who stays a kid forever and who starts to grow old. Wendy has to choose between that freedom and the people she loves.

Zeitlin shot it on volcanic coastlines with first-time child actors instead of soundstages, and the film carries the same muddy, hand-built feeling as his debut Beasts of the Southern Wild.
