Synopsis
Angélique and the King (Angélique et le Roy, 1966) is a French costume melodrama you can watch online on iFILM. The third chapter of the saga adapted from Anne and Serge Golon's novels, it was directed by Bernard Borderie and stars Michèle Mercier.
The setting is the court of Louis XIV. Newly widowed, Angélique is handed a delicate assignment by the king himself: charm a Persian ambassador into signing a treaty France badly wants. Her only weapon is her beauty. But the visitor proves far more dangerous than anyone at Versailles expected, and a game of diplomacy turns into a fight to get out unharmed.
Robert Hossein and Jean Rochefort move through a world of duels, whispered plots and palace ambition. It carries the lavish look that made the whole series about the marquise of angels a European favorite — gowns, châteaux and plenty of intrigue. Stream Angélique and the King (1966) online on iFILM.
