Synopsis
Scaramouche (1952) is a swashbuckling MGM adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Director George Sidney brings Rafael Sabatini's novel of France on the eve of revolution to the screen. Andre Moreau is the bastard son of a nobleman, raised without ever learning his father's name.
When a duel leaves his closest friend dead at the hand of the Marquis de Maynes — the deadliest blade in the country — the easygoing Moreau swears to return the very same thrust. One catch: he can't fence. So he hides inside a troupe of commedia players, takes the painted mask of the clown Scaramouche, and learns the sword in secret while two very different women pull at his heart. The cast leads with Stewart Granger, Eleanor Parker, Janet Leigh and Mel Ferrer.
Everything builds to the finale — a theater duel that runs close to seven minutes and is still cited as the longest sword fight ever filmed. What keeps it out of pure melodrama is Granger's wink: his Moreau grins through danger, treating the whole world as a madhouse worth laughing at. Stream Scaramouche (1952) online on iFILM.
