Synopsis
Paranormal (2020) is an Egyptian mystery series you can watch online on iFILM, with Ahmed Amin as Dr. Refaat Ismail — directed by Amr Salama and Majid Al Ansari.
Cairo, the 1960s. Refaat is a hematology professor: methodical, data-driven, the kind of man who scoffs at ghost stories. Then the cases start arriving — a cursed mansion, a death that defies every medical reading, an object with a history no one can explain. His Scottish companion Maggie, played by Razan Jammal, takes the supernatural far more seriously than he does, and their back-and-forth drives most of the season. Each episode delivers a standalone story built around a different kind of phenomenon, while Refaat's scepticism slowly gets harder to sustain.
The series adapts the hugely popular novels of Egyptian author Ahmed Khaled Tawfik, and Netflix released it as their first Arabic-language original. The 1960s Cairo setting earns its keep — sun-bleached apartment blocks, cramped offices, period-accurate texture — and the production treats it as atmosphere rather than costume.
