Synopsis
Journey into Fear (1943) is a wartime noir thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Howard Graham, an American ballistics expert, is in Istanbul on business when a gunman tries to kill him in a seedy nightclub on his very first night. Just like that, a routine trip turns into a run for his life.
To smuggle him home, Turkish authorities slip Graham aboard a grimy cargo steamer crossing the Black Sea. The catch: his hunters have booked passage too. The boat is packed with shady company — Nazi agents, a henpecked political theorist who won't stop talking, a washed-up dance act, and a bespectacled assassin. Joseph Cotten plays the cornered hero, and Orson Welles turns up as the imposing head of the Turkish secret police.
Adapted from Eric Ambler's novel by Welles' Mercury company, it carries his fingerprints all over the shadows and tilted angles, even though Norman Foster holds the directing credit. Sixty-eight tight minutes of suspense for anyone who loves vintage black-and-white spy pictures. Stream Journey into Fear (1943) online on iFILM.
