Synopsis
Margrete: Queen of the North (2021) is a historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Charlotte Sieling and shot across Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Poland, it drops us into the year 1402, when one woman quietly held three Nordic crowns at once.
Her adopted son Erik wears the title, yet every real decision runs through Queen Margrete. She is brokering Erik's marriage to an English princess to lock in the fragile alliance she spent decades assembling. Then a stranger turns up claiming to be her own son — the boy everyone believed dead years ago. Is he genuine, or a weapon planted by her enemies? Either answer could tear apart her life's work. Trine Dyrholm plays her with a stillness that hides a mind always calculating ten moves ahead.
The story leans on the real Margrete I and the union of kingdoms later known to history as the Kalmar Union. This is cold, hushed period filmmaking, where the danger is whispered in stone halls rather than swung on a battlefield — ideal if you like costume drama built on tension instead of spectacle.
