Synopsis
Steam: The Turkish Bath (Hamam, 1997) is the debut drama from director Ferzan Özpetek, available to watch online on iFILM. Francesco, a Rome-based designer, learns that an aunt he barely knew has left him an old hamam in Istanbul.
He flies to Turkey planning a quick sale, but the city has other ideas. Francesco (Alessandro Gassmann) settles in with the family that has kept the bath running for years, grows close to their son Mehmet (Mehmet Günsür), and feels a warmth his marriage to Marta never offered. Özpetek opens his career with a film about a foreign place quietly rewriting a man — unhurried rhythms, steam, marble and Ottoman tilework. An Italian-Turkish-Spanish co-production that launched his reputation as a delicate storyteller of love and belonging. Intimate filmmaking for anyone who values slow European drama. Stream Steam: The Turkish Bath (1997) online on iFILM.
