Synopsis
Where Do We Go Now? (وهلأ لوين؟, 2011) is a Lebanese tragicomedy from writer-director Nadine Labaki you can watch online on iFILM, a co-production across Lebanon, France, Italy, Egypt and Qatar running 110 minutes.
A remote village, ringed by minefields, has kept its Christian and Muslim residents living side by side for years. The civil unrest spreading through the country outside is starting to seep in through the radio and TV — and the women of the village decide to stop it there. They sabotage the antenna, hide the newspapers, and hire Ukrainian dancers as a distraction. The men cannot know what is happening in the world beyond. But the world comes regardless.
Labaki holds together grief and wry comedy in a way that feels specific to this region and this kind of loss — women outrunning a violence that will not be reasoned with. The film earned Lebanon's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film that year. Stream Where Do We Go Now? (2011) online on iFILM.
