Synopsis
Blood Quantum (2019) — watch online on iFILM. Written and directed by Jeff Barnaby, this Canadian horror film is set on the Mi'kmaq reserve of Red Crow, where dead fish start moving in the opening minutes and the outbreak has already begun before anyone uses the word "zombie."
The twist is biological: the reserve's Indigenous residents don't turn. The virus has no hold on them. Sheriff Traylor (Michael Greyeyes) tries to hold the community together as the world outside collapses, but immunity creates its own fractures — who gets let through the gates, and who gets left out. His two sons, played by Forrest Goodluck and Kiowa Gordon, land on opposite sides of that question. Devery Jacobs and Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers carry the emotional weight of what the siege is actually costing.
Barnaby uses the genre without being used by it. The film is bloody and direct, but the immunity angle is doing real work: who is expendable, who gets protected, who decides. Horror as a format for a much older argument. Stream Blood Quantum in full online on iFILM.
