Suddenly

Suddenly (Soudain seuls, 2023) is Thomas Bidegain's survival thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. Ben and Laura, a couple already cracking apart, set off on a round-the-world sail to fix things and drop anchor at an empty island off the Chilean coast.

A night storm drives them into an abandoned whaling station. By morning their boat is gone, swallowed by the sea. No radio, thinning supplies, and an Antarctic winter closing in. Gilles Lellouche and Mélanie Thierry now have to ration food, find warmth wherever they can, and figure out day by day who is carrying whom. Everything they felt for each other gets tested by hunger and cold.

Bidegain, long a screenwriter, makes his directing debut here, adapting Isabelle Autissier's novel. It's a two-hander where the real enemy isn't a wild animal but slow exhaustion and the things left unsaid between two people. If you like bleak, effects-free survival, this one lands.
