Hotshot lawyer Johnny Lung (Chan) is hired to represent a chemical plant dumping toxins into a lake. On the other side is the lake's owner, a woman named Lao who wants the pollution stopped. Johnny calls in two friends to dig up dirt: Sammo plays a weapons dealer, Biao a lovable thief with a weakness for any woman he meets. As all three work their separate angles, it gradually becomes clear that the plant is a front for a major drug operation — and everyone ends up on the same side without quite meaning to. The comedy of misaligned loyalties is where the film is sharpest.
