Flashback

Flashback (2021) is a French sci-fi comedy from Caroline Vigneaux that you can watch online on iFILM. A burned-out lawyer slips through time and meets the women who fought for their rights across the centuries.

Charlotte defends just about anyone, has lost her spark and quietly given up on her own principles. Then a strange glitch starts hurling her around history — to medieval women branded witches, to the suffragettes, to other flashpoints where the basics had to be won by force. Each stop works as its own comic sketch and as a jab at her cynicism. Vigneaux directs and takes the lead role herself, with Gad Elmaleh and Suzanne Clément alongside her.

It's a brisk, talky satire with a stand-up rhythm — Vigneaux came up through law and the comedy circuit, and the material clearly hits close to home. Don't expect heavy science fiction; it's more a feminist pamphlet wrapped in a light genre. A good pick for fans of sharp-tongued French comedy with a social edge.
