The Dead

Lieutenant Brian Murphy is the only survivor when an evacuation flight goes down off the West African coast. He's stranded in the middle of a full-scale outbreak. The undead here are slow — deliberately, unnervingly slow — and everywhere. Murphy eventually crosses paths with local soldier Daniel Dembele, who is searching for his son. Together they push across the landscape with no clear destination and dwindling supplies.

The Fords financed and shot this independently with almost no studio backing, and it shows in the best possible way. The African terrain does more work than any horror set could.
