The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat

"The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat" (1974) is an adults-only American animated feature you can watch online on iFILM. It is the sequel to Ralph Bakshi's 1972 original, based on Robert Crumb's underground comics about the counterculture tomcat — though director Robert Taylor takes over without Bakshi, and the rougher edges of the original are somewhat smoothed out.

Fritz is now domesticated: married, a father, and completely bored. He lights a joint and drifts into fantasies about his eight other lives — a stint as an astronaut, a session with Hitler on the psychiatrist's couch, a run through a race war as a courier, and time spent with an Indian guru in the New York sewers. None of the lives end well. Looser and less confrontational than its predecessor, the film still runs hot on psychedelic excess and pitch-black comedy.
