Synopsis
I Am Ali (2014) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Clare Lewins from material no other Ali film had: the champion's personal audio journals, recorded privately over the years and never intended for an audience.
The tapes catch Muhammad Ali talking to his children, thinking aloud, laughing, arguing — unguarded in a way no press conference ever allowed. Lewins pairs them with testimony from people who knew him closely: daughters Hana and Maryum Ali, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Tom Jones, and Marvis Frazier, whose father Joe had his own complicated relationship with Ali that the film doesn't sidestep.
There's no shortage of films about Muhammad Ali. This one is unusual because it mostly steps aside and lets him speak for himself — not the Greatest, the activist, the icon, but the man on the tape. Stream I Am Ali online on iFILM.
