Broomfield spent years gathering a different picture, centred on former LAPD detective Russell Poole, who compiled evidence linking the department itself to Suge Knight's Death Row Records and associated street gangs. Interviews with Biggie's mother Voletta Wallace and people close to both artists give the film personal grounding.
