Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer
The 2002 Interviews.
Synopsis
Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003) is Nick Broomfield's documentary you can watch online on iFILM — filmed in the final days before Florida executed Aileen Wuornos, the highway sex worker who shot six men dead across 1989 and 1990.
Broomfield first put her on camera back in 1992, and here he returns to a woman whose grip on reality is slipping fast. Florida had ruled her sane, and therefore fit for the electric chair; the camera, run with co-director Joan Churchill, simply sits with her as she contradicts herself and turns on everyone in the room. Broomfield even folds in his own courtroom testimony. No score, no tidy verdict — just an uneasy look at how a state decides a person is well enough to die.
