Synopsis
World of Tomorrow (2015) is a 17-minute animated short you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Don Hertzfeldt. A three-year-old girl named Emily receives a call from her own clone, beaming in from 227 years in the future with a full briefing on where the human race ends up.
The briefing covers memory extraction from the dead, consciousness uploaded into rocks, and love outsourced to machines. Little Emily listens — and keeps interrupting to talk about her drawings. Hertzfeldt built the film independently, using deliberately childlike animation against an eerie synthetic score; the contrast does most of the work.
It took the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in 2015 and remains one of the sharpest pieces of short-form science fiction of the decade. Stream World of Tomorrow online on iFILM.
