Synopsis
Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) is an Indian romantic comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Sharat Katariya drops us into mid-1990s Haridwar, a small town still running on audio cassettes and arranged-marriage meetings.
Prem is an awkward school dropout who sells recorded music for a living. Family pressure pushes him into marrying Sandhya — better educated, sharper-tongued, and heavier than the bride he had pictured. He's ashamed of her and wants out; she feels every bit of it, and the marriage cracks before it ever really begins. Then the town announces its annual race in which husbands carry their wives, and that ridiculous contest turns into a test of whether two near-strangers can actually choose each other.
It's Bhumi Pednekar's screen debut, and Ayushmann Khurrana plays Prem without an ounce of caricature. The soundtrack runs on nostalgia for 90s playback pop, with legendary singer Kumar Sanu lending his own voice. A warm, small-scale film about love that doesn't have to start with falling in love.
