Synopsis
The Man from London (2008) is Béla Tarr's hypnotic crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. From his signalman's tower above the harbor, Maloin sees a late-night scuffle end with a man tumbling into the water, a briefcase sinking beside him.
Maloin fishes out the case. It's stuffed with money, and he tells no one. That silence tightens like a noose: by morning a stranger named Brown is shadowing him, scouring the dock for what went missing. His wife and daughter stay in the dark while the weight of the secret settles over the household.
Adapted from Georges Simenon's 1933 novel and starring Tilda Swinton as Maloin's wife, the film moves at Tarr's famously glacial pace — long takes, wet stone, fog, the slow tick of dread. This isn't a whodunit so much as a portrait of a man undone by one impulsive choice. For anyone who loves slow cinema you can almost touch, it's essential.
