Synopsis
Aimée & Jaguar (1999) is Max Färberböck's German period drama, available to watch online on iFILM. The winter of 1943: Allied bombers are flattening city blocks and the Gestapo is hunting down the last Jews left in Berlin. Against that, two women fall dangerously in love.
Lilly Wust is the model officer's wife, mother of four sons, decorated by the Reich for her motherhood. Felice Schragenheim lives under a false name, works at a Nazi newspaper, and quietly slips intelligence to the resistance. They sign their notes to each other "Aimée" and "Jaguar." Lilly divorces her husband and takes Felice into her home, fully aware of the stakes, because the secret police are already circling. Maria Schrader and Juliane Köhler shared the acting honor at the Berlinale for these two roles.
Drawn from Erica Fischer's account of the real couple, whose story breaks off in the summer of 1944, the film skips the war-victim sermon for something tender and alive: happiness stolen from the cruelest of years. It's for anyone who wants wartime cinema built on faces, not the front line. Stream Aimée & Jaguar (1999) online on iFILM.
